Today I am kicking off another blog tour for Amalie Howard. I have the awesome book, ALPHA GODDESS  touring on my blog, Lady Reader’s Bookstuff.

In Serjana Caelum’s world, gods exist. So do goddesses. Sera knows this because she is one of them. A secret long concealed by her parents, Sera is Lakshmi reborn, the human avatar of an immortal Indian goddess rumored to control all the planes of existence.
Marked by the sigils of both heaven and hell, Sera’s avatar is meant to bring balance to the mortal world, but all she creates is chaos.

A chaos that Azrath, the Asura Lord of Death, hopes to use to unleash hell on earth.

Torn between reconciling her past and present, Sera must figure out how to stop Azrath before the Mortal Realm is destroyed. But trust doesn’t come easy in a world fissured by lies and betrayal. Her best friend Kyle is hiding his own dark secrets, and her mysterious new neighbor, Devendra, seems to know a lot more than he’s telling.

Struggling between her opposing halves and her attraction to the boys tied to each of them, Sera must become the goddess she was meant to be, or risk failing, which means sacrificing the world she was born to protect.

As part of my writing process, I create a playlist for every book that I write. I usually pick out a few of the songs beforehand when I have a budding idea for a story, but the entire playlist is a work in progress as the story develops. For me, the right piece of music can make a scene flow magically, whether it’s a romantic scene or an action sequence. Sometimes, I’ll have a certain song on repeat depending on the scene I’m writing.

Most of the music in ALPHA GODDESS is alternative and rock with a couple pieces of electronica and even a smidge of country. Since half of the novel is written from Kyle’s point of view, I needed to really get inside of his head, which meant a lot of gritty, guitar-driven rock like I Will Not Bow by Breaking Benjamin. Kyle is a very tormented character. There are quite a few angry and emotional songs on this playlist—songs about unrequited love, rejection and loss. Don’t be alarmed—it’s all about what drives the creative process!

Hope you enjoy!

The Official Playlist for THE ALMOST GIRL by @AmalieHoward @SamiJoLien #TheAlmostGirl

Today I am kicking off another blog tour for Amalie Howard. I have the awesome Strange Chemistry book, THE ALMOST GIRL touring on my blog, Lady Reader’s Bookstuff.
Amalie Howard and her upcoming new release, "THE ALMOST GIRL " (January 7th) is touring with JKS Communications.

Check out the stellar Playlist and Amalie's reasoning for creating a playlist for each novel she writes. I hope you totally dig it!

Seventeen-year-old Riven is as tough as they come. But coming from a world ravaged by a devastating android war, she has to be. There’s no room for softness, no room for emotion, no room for mistakes. A Legion General, she is the right hand of the young Prince of Neospes, a parallel universe to Earth. In Neospes, she has everything: rank, responsibility and respect. But when Prince Cale sends her away to find his long-lost brother, Caden, who has been spirited back to modern day Earth, Riven finds herself in uncharted territory.

Thrown out of her comfort zone but with the mindset of a soldier, Riven has to learn how to be a girl in a realm that is the opposite of what she knows.  Riven isn’t prepared for the beauty of a world that is unlike her own in so many ways. Nor is she prepared to feel something more than indifference for the very target she seeks. Caden is nothing like Cale, but he makes something in her come alive, igniting a spark deep down that goes against every cell in her body. For the first time in her life, Riven isn’t sure about her purpose, about her calling. Torn between duty and desire, she must decide whether Caden is simply a target or whether he is something more.

Faced with hideous reanimated Vector soldiers from her own world with agendas of their own, as well as an unexpected reunion with a sister who despises her, it is a race against time to bring Caden back to Neospes. But things aren’t always as they seem, and Riven will have to search for truth. Family betrayals and royal coups are only the tip of the iceberg. Will Riven be able to find the strength to defy her very nature? Or will she become the monstrous soldier she was designed to be?

As part of my creative process, I create a playlist for every book that I write. I usually pick out the songs beforehand when I have a budding idea for a story, but it’s a work in progress as the story progresses.  For me, the right piece of music can make a scene flow magically, whether it’s a romantic scene or an action sequence. Sometimes, I’ll have a certain song on repeat depending on the scene I’m writing.

Many of the songs in THE ALMOST GIRL are Dubstep—there’s just something about the heavy bass and the electronic sounds that make me sink into the parallel universe of Neospes and into the mind of my protagonist.

Other songs embodied specific characters or certain scenes. “Run” by Leona Lewis is Riven’s song for Shae—I may have shed a tear or two when writing some of the scenes between the two sisters.  “Reptile” by Skrillex is the song that drove most of the scenes in the Outers of the parallel dimension with the hybroids. In fact, that is how those creatures got their nickname!

A rising star among young adult writers, Amalie Howard developed a loyal following after releasing her debut book, “Bloodspell,” in 2011.

Now, she is returning with five new books that are sure to excite her devoted fans and catch the attention of new readers.

A bookworm from the beginning, Howard grew up on a small island in the Caribbean with her nose buried in books. When she was just 13 years old, her poem “The Candle” was published in a University of Warwick journal, marking a sign of great things to come. Howard lives in New York with her husband, three children and one willful feline that she is convinced may have been a witch’s cat in a past life.

Continuing a tradition of strong female characters, “The Almost Girl” (January 7, 2014, Strange Chemistry) introduces readers to a tough, independent soldier from a parallel universe who is thrown into an earthly mission that has her second guessing life as she knows it.

“The Almost Girl” is first in a two-book series.

“A riveting union of science fiction thriller, romance, family drama, and conspiracy theory, The Almost Girl had me wishing I could crawl inside the pages and join Riven on her epic journey between parallel worlds. Amalie Howard’s writing is sharp and smart. I’m definitely craving the next installment!” – Page Morgan, author of The Beautiful and The Cursed

“Amalie Howard writes a fast paced and thrilling story with a kick butt, authentic heroine and a brilliantly crafted world.” – Eve Silver, author of Rush

The Almost Girl is a feminist tour de force. It is filled with powerful, interesting female characters. Riven is one of my favorite fictional characters ever; she is fierce, passionate, funny and smart. This sexy, fast-paced story is impossible to put down. A must read! Fans of Divergent will love it!” – Kim Purcell, author of Trafficked
