Pitch Dark Days - Winter Tour 2013
So, would you like to hear all about the evening I had with 4 of the most amazing ladies ever? Yes? Good, because I was going to tell my story anyway.
I was so very lucky to meet and spend the evening with Allison from HarperCollins, Brodi Ashton (Everbound), Cynthia Hand (Boundless), Tahereh Mafi (Unravel Me) and Veronica Rossi (Through the Ever Night).
Every one of these ladies was super awesome and willingly answered every question that I had even if they didn't want to. (I was probably talking them to sleep!)
So, below I will show you some various photos from the event as well as a short Q&A with the authors. I hope you enjoy.
o What is something random you can tell us about yourself?Tahereh Mafi: I used to break dance.o Did you initially plan to write within the YA genre or did it just happen?Cynthia Hand: I figured out I was writing YA about ¼ of the way into UNEARTHLY.o Do you listen to music while your write?Veronica Rossi: Yes. I have playlists for each book. Death Cab for Cutie, Mumford and Sons, Muse, The Civil Wars, and Damien Rice are just a few.o Where did you come up with the name Roar? Is there a special story there?Veronica Rossi: He’s an Aud, so a “sound” name was in order. And uhhh, it happens to be my favorite wine. heeee.o Where do you come up with character names?Cynthia Hand: Baby naming websites. Sometimes.o What is the craziest thing you have ever received from a fan?Tahereh Mafi: A guy once ripped his shirt open and asked me to sign his chest.o So, did you and if so what did you write?Tahereh Mafi: Oh noo no. I was super freaked out.o What’s your favorite moment in your most recent book?Brodi Ashton: There’s a scene where Cole and Nikki are stuck in a dark cellar. I love that scene.
o Can you describe EVERBOUND in five words?Brodi Ashton: Girl follows boy. Get screwed.o What is the best part about being an author?Tahereh Mafi: Living the “no pants lifestyle.”o What are some of your favorite authors?Tahereh Mafi: Shel Silverstein and Dr. Suess.
o The first few pages of SHATTER ME are true to Tahereh Mafi’s first draft.o Veronica Rossi has her husband “man check” her characters. Perry can only cry once a book.o Cynthia Hand keeps a recording device on her rear view mirror and has pulled over to cry after dictating a scene.o After many revisions Brodi Ashton finally drew a map of the Everneath. On a paper plate.o Brodi Ashton knows being a teen is life or death, DEATH the day she wore clown pants to school.
Tahereh is waving "hello" to a very special reader of mine. Von - this is for you!
