 On a foolhardy foray into a foreign realm, Taran Elijah is attacked by a terrible weapon known as the Staff. Killing its wielder, he escapes into Albia, inadvertently carrying the Staff.

Concerned by the vicious raids that follow Taran's actions, Major Sullyan of the High King's forces crosses into Andaryon to seek diplomatic resolution to the crisis. She is captured and tortured by Lord Rykan, aspirant to the Andaryon throne.


Slowly dying, Sullyan escapes his clutches. She offers her skills to the Hierarch in defense of his throne, finally confronting Rykan on the field of battle.Her handsome Captain and lover, Robin Tamsen, embarks on a desperate quest to recover the Staff. But Rykan's greedy General, Sonten, is two steps ahead of him. If Robin cannot lay hold of the weapon before Sonten does, Sullyan's life and the lives of all Artesans are forfeit.

Cas Peace was born in Hampshire UK, in 1957, and has lived there most of her life. Her first career was as a horse-riding instructor, and horses remain very close to her heart. She then spent 13 years working for the British Civil Service before leaving the UK to live in Italy for three years, 1991-1994. She speaks passable but by no means perfect Italian, and loves to return to Italy whenever she can.

 Cas's other great loves are anything to do with animals, especially dogs and horses, (she supports many animal charities) and also singing. Cas loves folk songs and along with her husband, who plays guitar, has performed in many a Southern England folk club. Sometimes they even asked her back! She writes folk songs to accompany her fantasy novels, and offers them as free downloads from her website.

Have you ever wondered how to tell the difference between reality and dreams? Do you ever wonder if you experience hallucinations? Do you believe in ghosts and/or time travel? 

In 2012 NBC aired a television series called Awake, in which the main character lives two separate lives - one in which his wife has been killed - and the other in which his son was killed. He is never sure which one is real. The concept is intriguing, don’t you think? 

Although I never watched the show I was fascinated by the idea of it and it left me pondering how we know whether what we are experiencing is real or imaginary. 

I have very vivid dreams when I sleep. Many times it seems as if I am watching a movie, yet I am a participant. Often, while I am a participant, I am not “me”. Do you ever have dreams like that? 

When you dream at night, do you know you are dreaming? Can you tell it is a dream even when you are in it? Do you ever pinch yourself to see if you are awake? How deeply involved can you get in your own fantasies? Can you get lost in them? 

In my new novella, The Beacon, I’ve explored some of these issues. Our heroine has been shipwrecked and leads two concurrent lives - one where she is alone stranded on this isolated island - and one where she is surrounded by a loving family that is plagued by domestic violence. 

Is she alone or not? Is she seeing ghosts or time travelling? Has she lost her mind? 

I obviously found this a very interesting concept and I’m leaving it up to you, the reader, to decide. The Beacon is a psychological thriller/suspense novella and is available now on Amazon. I hope you will check it out.

She closed her eyes as the music flowed into her. Iza came in on her fiddle, her notes weaving in and out like bright threads in a tapestry. Justin started singing the first lines and she tapped her foot, counting like Nathan had taught her. “Every beat is a physical thing,” he had said. “See the music, feel it, just like you’ve done your whole life. Pearls on a string—let each one slide through your fingers. Measured.”

Mandolin line. Then the bass started. Maggie’s turn.

When she came in, her voice was louder and stronger than it had ever been. Justin’s voice filled her up like honey. She swam through it, adding her own to his. Maybe he was a womanizer and constantly looking at her like he wanted to get her in bed, but he was an amazing singer. They smiled at each other as they melted into the song.

She had never been inside music like this before. The stage lights sparkled in her eyes and she understood for the first time in her life why musicians put up with all that travelling and recording, and the stressful nights like when her mom was puking her guts out with the flu—the real flu—but had to go on stage in five minutes. Maggie remembered her smiling as she wiped her mouth and shrugged. “It’s part of the singin’ life, hon. We don’t always get breaks when we need them.” She had patted Maggie on her twelve-year-old head and squared her shoulders as her makeup artist dusted some powder over her pale cheeks. Then she had left for the stage in a flutter of sequins and curls.
