#ArmchairBEA Day One: Introductions @ArmchairBEA

Design credit: Nina of Nina Reads.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

Hey there. My name is Amy, also known as Lady Reader. I am the Publicist for Rhemalda Publishing and I do freelance publicity work as well.

I have been blogging at
Lady Reader's Bookstuff since August 2010. Three years is coming up quickly and WOW, it does not feel like it. Recently I began another website for my blog tours so I don't drive my readers crazy with the tour posts. It is a work in progress but it's worth it. I'd love for you to check out the websites and let me know what you think. I love feedback. Please remember, they're still "Under Construction". Lady Reader's Blog Tours and Lady Reader's Blog Tours & Promotions.

I started reading very late in life. To be precise, it was the summer of 2009. I first stumbled across
Goodreads and then found myself immersed into the wonderful universe of book bloggers. It was then that I discovered that individuals had actual websites where they could talk about the books they read or wanted to read. I thought it was the most awesome thing. I spent a good year reading, and then I decided to started my own. I began Lady Reader as a blog so I could tell everyone about the books that I loved so much and in return I made several wonderful blogging friends and have read books that I never would have known existed otherwise.

2. Where in the world are you blogging from? Tell a random fact or something special about your current location.

I live in Atlanta. I moved to Georgia from St. Louis, during the summer of 1996.

Living in Atlanta is pretty awesome, aside from the tremendous traffic that is seriously non-stop. It is a beautiful city and the weather is nice and warm (most of the time).

There are several epic events that take place in Atlanta. AJC Decatur Book Festival is one.

The Decatur Book Festival is the largest Independent Book Festival in the Country.

This awesome event takes place every Labor Day weekend (August 30th-September 1st 2013) in the beautiful historic downtown Decatur, Georgia.

3. What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book that you have read so far in 2013.

I am currently beta reading a couple of manuscripts and I'm not really going to discuss those right now. However, I will tell you the best book that I've read this year. I could go on and on about how fantastic this book is, but I'd rather let you read it and then come back and tell me your thoughts. (This may be the best book I've EVER read. No lie.)

Ryan Dean West is a fourteen-year-old junior at a boarding school for rich kids. He’s living in Opportunity Hall, the dorm for troublemakers, and rooming with the biggest bully on the rugby team. And he’s madly in love with his best friend Annie, who thinks of him as a little boy.

With the help of his sense of humor, rugby buddies, and his penchant for doodling comics, Ryan Dean manages to survive life’s complications and even find some happiness along the way. But when the unthinkable happens, he has to figure out how to hold on to what’s important, even when it feels like everything has fallen apart.

Filled with hand-drawn info-graphics and illustrations and told in a pitch-perfect voice, this realistic depiction of a teen’s experience strikes an exceptional balance of hilarious and heartbreaking.

4. What is your favorite post that you've written that you would want everyone to read?

Okay. Now this is going to be difficult, because I have many. What I am going to do is tell you the post(s) that I've written and are more than awesome (in my opinion) but also were totally super fun to make. Those are the best ones, right?

5. If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why?

Andrew Smith. Hands down. No contest. I did not even have to think about that question.

As a matter of fact, I plan to do just that this October (19th) when I go back to St. Louis for the LESS THAN <3 Conference

Not only is there an amazingggg panel of authors scheduled to speak at this anti-bullying event, I'm going to hang out with some of them. If all still goes as planned, Andrew will be one of them. Then I can say that I've gotten everything out of the literary world that I will ever want.

Thank you so much for visiting me and getting to know a little about me.
Please leave a link to your post so I can return the favor and stalk check out your posts.
I hope to see you again in the future.
Happy Reading!

  1. I keep hearing such great things about Winger! Even though I'm not much of a YA reader, I think I have to give this one a shot.

Can I tell you how much I love that you are a White Stripes fan? I grew up in Detroit and loved them when they were still a "local" band. Now that I live in Virginia, listening to them is like being home - it's the best.

Glad to have stumbled by your blog, hope you have a great week!

  2. Winger is a book that keeps popping up, and everyone is saying great things. Guess I'll have to add that to my ever growing list of books to buy! :)
    Enjoy Armchair BEA!

  3. Nice to "meet" you! =) You're the second person I've come across today that started blogging in August 2010 -- I did as well! Was there something in the water?? ;)

  6. You live in Atlanta?! I;m going to school in Auburn but I'm from South Carolina. How neat! I'm applying to PT school in Atlanta, fingers crossed. I will say I will never not hate driving through ATL to get back home. What they have done to the 1-20 exit off of 285 going East is horrendous. I went home a couple of weekends ago, NOT during rush hour and it took over an hour to get past all that mess. I don't know if you ever have to go that way but don't! So back to book blogging :) I had no idea about the Decatur Book Festival. I'll definitely have to go this year! *marks it on calendar* So glad you mentioned it! I've recently stumbled across WINGER on Goodreads. I didn't really pay much attention to it but if it's your favorite book of the year, I'll have to check it out. I think the cover kind of just threw me off. I hope you get to meet the author when you go to St. Louis!

  8. You're not going to go to this conference and have dinner with Andrew Smith without me, are you? I thought part of the deal was that I had to come along! >.<

  9. I've seen a number of positive reviews for Winger lately. I'm not much of a YA reader but I think that one would be my cup of tea :)

I hope you're enjoying ABEA, happy reading!
