April A to Z Challenge Letter "F" = Fiktshun on Fangtasia #AtoZChallenge @AprilA2Z

Welcome to day six of the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge.
Today's letter is "F" and my topic is = Fiktshun and my good friend Rachel, who runs and owns the blog Fiktshun is going to discuss one of our, er.., I mean her favorite places; Fangtasia
Enjoy!

First I’d just like to thank Amy for inviting me onto her beautiful blog for the April A to Z Challenge to represent the letter F.

And while I was originally chosen for the letter F because my blog Fiktshun starts with the letter F, Amy and I decided that it would be much more fun to talk about one of my favorite vampires and the bar he runs... Eric Northman and FANGTASIA.

But before I start rambling on about Mr. Northman and his fine southern drinking establishment, I should probably introduce myself....

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Rachel and I run the blog Fiktshun along with one or two others. Blogs that is. I have been blogging for just under a year and a half, but I’ve been a fan of Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire series since October 2009 when I spent a weekend marathon reading all nine books released at the time back-to-back and then re-reading them all two more times before I got them out of my system.

And while I was able to get the books out of my system, I wasn’t able to break free of the hold that Eric the Northman had on me. As far as vampires go, he represents the species quite well. Ancient. Powerful. Strong. Devious. Sexy. Dangerous. Sexy... Yes, I said that twice and I’d say it again and again. Have you read those books?

Even though I didn’t originally imagine him looking quite like the actor who plays him on the television series, now I can’t imagine him any other way. He too is one fine looking specimen... ... .... Oh, where was I? Right, I was talking about how delicious Eric Northman is... ... .... Oops, sorry about that. Maybe Amy should have chosen a different topic for me today.

Or maybe I should talk a little bit about Fangtasia and try to avoid daydreaming about the fang-tastic Eric Northman.
Wait, did I just lose another twenty minutes trying to write this post? Ahem... Sorry about that.

So.... For those of you who haven’t read the books or watched the television show, Eric Northman is the Sheriff of Area Five in Louisiana and he runs the bar Fangtasia in Shreveport.
Fangtasia is the sort of bar where vampire groupies - often called fangbangers by those who look down on humans who consort with the undead - and those who are vamp-curious get to hang out in a safe and non-threatening environment. It’s quite the touristy place. They sell T-shirts and other merch. And for those who want to take things a step further, well, what happens in Fangtasia stays in Fangtasia.

Most nights, when he’s not out saving Sookie from some unfortunate predicament she’s landed herself in, Eric Northman is putting in an appearance. So, chances are you will see him if you head on down. He’s all about making sure his business is successful. And face time with this one thousand plus year old Viking vampire definitely helps to bring in business. He’s as scary as he is handsome, making him appealing to women and thrill-seekers alike.

And what’s not to like about this owner of Fangtasia? He’s blonde, blue-eyed, six foot four inches tall. He has broad shoulders, and... well... you can read about just what else he has to offer in the looks department if you want to know more. Let’s just say from head to toe he has nothing to be ashamed about. Not. One. Thing....

Again? Seriously! It happened again, didn’t it? Ah, the mind tends to wander when it comes to Mr. Northman.

So... Fangtasia... Well, while it’s a great place to go for a drink and a bite - or to get bitten - it’s not the best place to apply for a job. Working at Fangtasia means being closer to Eric - WIN - but it also tends to be hazardous to the lives of its bartenders. FAIL.

And, of course, its other drawback is that there is the chance that you might run into Bill Compton. As Eric does use the back room at the bar for his headquarters, and Bill resides in Area Five, he does make the occasional trip to Shreveport to visit Fangtasia, down a True Blood or other synthetic blood drink of choice, and ogle Sookie from afar. Oh Vampire Bill you make me so mad!
But I digress. This is neither the time nor place to talk about Bill Compton. I would have had to have been given the letter B if I wanted to voice my opinions on that sorry excuse for a vampire.

So, if you are looking for a great bar to go to where you can get just a taste of what it’s like to be near creatures of the night, take a walk on the wild side, and get bitten only if you want to, then Fangtasia is the place for you.

And if you are as big a fan of the bar’s owner as I am, then you’ll definitely want to head on over to meet this incredibly amazing vampire. Who knows? With the direction things seem to be headed for Sookie, she just might not be around for too much longer. Which means that Eric is fair game.

  3. Super post! Eric - the Eric on tv and the Eric in the books- is one of my favorite vampires. Ahh, I'd love to visit Fangtasia, too :P And I totally agree, Bill is a "sorry excuse for a vampire".

now I'm off! I'll read this one as soon as I can!

  8. As I haven't read the Sharlaine Harris books (I know!) at first I thought we were talking about a REAL BAR. And I thought, this is a perfect place for me and Amy to raise some serious hell.
And then I figured it out.
Guess I got me some more books on the TBR list!

  9. Thanks so much for having me stop by Amy. It was a lot of fun. You came up with the perfect subject. I'd always much rather talk Eric than about me! :) And if you ever want a Bill rant post, I'm all yours. LOL.

    OH MY CLOUDS!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS POST!!!!!!!!!!!!! This just contributed to my reading pile books and the order they were supposed to be in! @Rachel I simply love you...there are no words! *_* so funny! And OMG Bill is that THAT bad huh? I still can't believe it! Having just seen part of the first season and not read any book...still WOW WOW 'excuse of a vampire?' I'm MORE AND MORE curious now...and this Fangtasia...I think I saw one episode before I stopped altogether in which this bar was mentioned or something and WOAH! This is one bar I don't know whether I'd like to simply live in, day and night, or just stay away as far as possible from...BUT With Eric in the picture it seems that the first option is the most likely to come true when reading the books!!
YEY! for F and Fiktshun and Fangtasia and YEYYYYYYYYYYY AMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE that you asked Rachel here!!! *_*
    My life...isn't sad anymore :D
