Welcome to day sixteen of the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge.
Today's letter is "P" and my topic is = Personal Assistant.
My friend Kate is going to guest post again today and tell you about her job as a PERSONAL ASSISTANT. Enjoy!
Well hello again to all of Amy’s followers! I hope you enjoyed my last post for N = NEED For Blood Donations and Why. Today I am going to be talking about one of the many cool things in my life, working as a Personal Assistant.
My personal assistant job was actually the first job I have ever had. I was 17 and a senior in high school when Heather Brewer decided it was time to get an assistant and I just happened to be the one for the job. Heather Brewer is the New York Times best-selling author of The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, she also has two new series The Slayer Chronicles and The Legacy of Tril (I recommend them all!). Needless to say as a very popular YA author Heather had a lot e-mails and not enough time to keep up with the steady flow and write, so I became the e-mail sorter sending her the e-mails she needed to deal with and responding to the others as needed. In my time working for Heather I also picked a winner for a contest out of over 300 entries and helped out with the old forum (which unfortunately is no longer running). Although I do not currently work for Heather she gave me a start into my dream job and the experience I needed to learn what it means to be a personal assistant.
A personal assistant is not someone an author gets because they believe their time is more valuable than someone else, really I believe that an author gets an assistant because they want to spend MORE time giving readers what they want. I believe that as a personal assistant it is my job to take unnecessary stress off the author I work for so that they can write more, spend more time with their family, and spend more time doing things for their readers. A personal assistant is not a set job with certain tasks but more of a brain and hands for hire that an author can employ be more productive. As I look for future work I always tell the authors I talk to that I am there to make their lives easier, if that means they need me to make coffee runs, than that is what I will do. If they need me to talk to about a problem they are having with a book, I’m there. If they need me to write out their schedule or research different literary events, you bet I will do it.
I am a personal assistant because I love authors. This job is one that I have done for pay and for free and one I will strive to do for the rest of my life regardless of all the challenges that a nontraditional job has.
Currently I am working with another author and looking to ever increase my work for all kinds of authors. I also am trying to gain twitter followers @Froze8 – because they make me smile, and trying to build a better book blog so I can feel less like I am talking to myself and have more excuses to do book giveaways. J
Hopefully this gives you all a better idea on what I do and please feel free to ask me questions! I will be answering all the comments I get! You can also find me on my blog - http://froze8.blogspot.com/ or twitter (@Froze8).
See you soon!
